It’s one of those shops where you can rent a bay for a few hours to work on your own car if you don’t have your own garage. They even have lift bays to use. Pretty cool if you ask me. Probably not economical for something like an oil change or tire rotations but with a full set of hand tools and specialty tools availible to rent it could make suspension and exhaust work a breeze

There are a few of them that pop up in the suburbs. They never seem to last long though.

I’m betting in the City they’d have a better shot. Expensive, but it’s better than the Autozone parking lot!

thats cool, the prices are higher than I would have expected. I wonder what happens when you get half way done and brake something and now your car is stuck there for a few days

I can’t help but chuckle when I see these ads suggest renting a spot for changing oil. The hourly fee for use of the lift, combined with the cost of oil and filter means you’re going pretty far out of your way just to avoid someone else touching it.

But after hearing those quicky-lube horror stories, I can understand. I change my own oil all the time, but I’m not gonna shell out $40 to do it on a lift.

I think the trick to making this pay off is having a plan and knowing exactly what you’re doing. If you can’t work as fast as a shop tech, you’re not saving money.

I always take my time when wrenching on my car. I like to do things like clean parts, apply anti-seize (where appropriate), and torque to spec. I’d LOVE to have a lift, but renting by the hour would put me in too much of a hurry.

I am guessing their insurance costs are pretty high.

Most military bases used to have them. There's still a few around, but they're slowly being killed by safety weenies and lawsuits.

Our shop right down the street so every once in a while we get a brave soul who couldn’t finish his lift kit or something since our labor rate is only $75. Not a bad idea though. Good luck if you get stuck check us out! https://www.lovethytruck.com/
